The availability and promotion of abortion in this country is perfectly consistent with a culture that places supreme value on our material self. Sanctity of life ethic has been replaced by “quality” of life ethic. The value of human life is no longer considered intrinsic and sacred, based on our being loved by God and created in His image. Instead, our value is based on whatever we decide it to be, and collectively that translates into being proportional to the degree of our physical attributes and abilities, personal power, accomplishments, and accumulated wealth. This dilapidation of values notwithstanding, the knowledge and visualization of fetal development available to us today should compellingly touch even the secular humanist’s heart of compassion. Why is it, then, that organizations like the Human Rights Network oppose the most basic rights of these totally helpless, thoroughly human pre-born beings? I challenge secular advocates of human rights to intelligently defend their support of this carnage, done in the name of privacy and choice, that destroys millions of innocent human lives per year. Above and beyond knowledge of embryology is biblical knowledge of the sacredness of human life, and unborn children may be the most pure representations of God’s image. Those of the Judeo-Christian ethic are commanded in scripture to set themselves apart from any cultural ethic contrary to God’s word. So why is it that some Jewish and Christian individuals and certain denominations support abortion rights? I challenge these individuals and representatives of those denominations to defend their position and answer this question: How do you justify placing supreme value on privacy and choice at the expense of destruction of innocent unborn humans that each carry the sacred image of God?
