7/24/08 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the last remaining abortion clinic in the state closed its doors. Those that previously performed abortions declined working there. At least for now, abortion has ended in South Dakota. A state law upheld last month by the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals requires anyone performing an abortion to obtain informed consent from a woman seeking an abortion, that consent including the knowledge 1. that the abortion will terminate the life of a whole, separate, unique, living human being. 2. that the pregnant woman has an existing relationship with that unborn human being and that the relationship enjoys protection under the US Constitution. 3. of the “statistically significant risk factors” for complications of abortion, including those potentially devastating and life-long. |
These provisions should force federal courts to address unanswered legal issues since they 1. extend to abortion the relationship between a woman and her unborn child already defined in regard to adoption law, and 2. call the unborn a unique, living human being (a known fact) that compels a reversal of Roe v Wade. Requiring discussion of risk factors for complications exposes abortion businesses to liability risk they have never had before since it didn’t previously require informed consent that included potential complications. |
Local pro-lifers believe that the Planned Parenthood clinic closed its doors rather than accepting liability for informing patients about risk factors so the mothers can do their own risk-benefit analyses (part of freely choosing). They closed rather than making a minimal effort to avoid doing abortions that are unsafe and unnecessary , closed rather than telling the truth about the humanity of the unborn child. I entreat anyone who is a well-intentioned member of the pro-abortion forces to 1. take note of the cloaked anti-choice agenda of their leadership and 2. face the reality of what is destroyed in abortion by gazing upon the images and descriptions of the unborn displayed in politically neutral websites such as Parents.com, Pregnancy.org, Paternityangel.com. |
Vital and exciting as it is to win political victories, without winning hearts and minds such victories are incomplete and unsatisfactory in God’s ultimate purpose for His beloved human race. Many believe it will take broad-based prayer and fasting to overcome blindness of the magnitude that enables otherwise tender-hearted people to embrace heartless willful destruction of defenseless, innocent human life. Contact Philip 257-5900 and James 249-1637 for local multi-denominational prayer opportunities regarding this and other issues critical to humankind. Success in South Dakota did not come from political action alone. |
