Ellen Goodman is, of course, pleased that Democrats lead Republicans by a wide margin in the faculties of Universities, and she equates that with liberals out numbering conservatives. She says that doesn’t prove that students are “being wooed leftward”. If they are not being wooed, how can you explain that intelligent people are choosing the belief-system idiocy of moral relativism whose proponents believe that the only moral absolute is that there are no moral absolutes? Or that loving, kind people are supporting the brutal slaughter of millions of unborn children? Or the popularity of the unscientific and irrational belief in macro-evolution when the vast preponderance of research points to a Designer? Or that people who consider themselves honest prefer lies such as the distortion of history to support the perverted version of “separation of church and state”. |

The Oxford English dictionary defines philosophy as the use of argument and reason in order to establish the truth about reality. For roughly two centuries, perpetuated on the University level, reason has become meaningless and truth is thought to be arbitrary. Even reality is considered subjective. All that remains is argument. There is no moral or intellectual anchor or rudder when you throw out truth, reason, and reality. Anyone who goes through our education system is poisoned by this, and with its slow drip-drip-drip starting in preschool, our senses and intellects become dulled. |

For this intellectual lunacy to have flourished, it obviously has an appeal to our human species. I’m sure the appeal is multifaceted, but I believe the core appeal is to our pride and our distaste for accountability. It puffs us up to think we don’t need God. We prefer to think that our misdeeds have no eternal consequences. It is much easier, and makes us feel generous if we don’t judge others’ actions and ideas (unless of course Christian and moral absolutists are being judged—we are still fair game). |

Unfortunately, Christians often fall prey to the same temptations. Often the congregations that offer the feel good cheap version of grace are the ones rising in membership even though the vast majority of salvation scriptures are about accountability, repentance, and obedience. Complacency abounds despite Jesus’ admonition that He would rather we were hot or cold than luke-warm (Rev 3:15-16). |

We have “the Way, the Truth, and the Life”, and what do we do with it? Surveys reveal that Christians cheat on taxes just as often as non-believers. Over 50 percent of Evangelical Christian pastors surveyed looked at porn over the previous year. We have our own local “Christian” leader who committed adultery for twenty years with prostitutes. Many Christian denominations support the right to abortion and encourage homosexuality, both known to be abominations to God. Christian marriages are supposed to be a replica of the relationship of Christ to His Church, and many of them are, but far too often they range from lonely to abusive. It is a minority of husbands who follow their scriptural admonishment to love their wives as Christ loved the Church. |

I believe God holds His followers to a higher accountability for what is wrong with our nation: |
| |
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14). |

There is no fault or bad habit that can’t be overcome, no level of addiction that you can’t be delivered from, no number or type of crimes against humanity too great, nor damage done from childhood too ravaging, that can’t be washed clean by the blood of Jesus. If we His followers are healed, I believe the scales will fall off the eyes of those well-intentioned people who are presently perishing “for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6). When the quality of our lives manifests His glory, then will our land be healed. |
